Mavin Records, was established on May 8, 2012 and it’s founded by top Nigerian producer cum recording artist, Don Jazzy. The record label, houses some of Nigeria’s biggest music names today and they are: Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D’Prince, Di’Ja, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and most recently Iyanya. It also boasts of an impressive lineup of good music producers, such as Don Jazzy himself, Altims and Baby Fresh.
Mavin Records doesn’t just have numbers but quality members as over the years they have been able to evolve and prove from time-to-time that they are the real deal, representing the country and the continent at large well.
The label’s first major project was the compilation album titled Solar Plexus, released on May 8, 2012, an album that boasted of popular tracks such as: “Take Banana” and “Oma Ga” proved to be a massive success as the public acceptance for the project went over the roof!
It is safe to say Mavin is one of the few Nigerian music brands dedicated to dishing out good music. Time after time, these guys have been dropping nationwide hits that can stand the test of time and find their way across the world beyond the shores of the continent. Something extremely few label in the country can boast of.
The A&R of the label is not to be undermined and deserves respect from all other labels in the country. Mavin’s impressive lineup of artists is one of the major reasons competing with them is a really hard thing to do.
The first lady, Tiwa Savage since dropping her debut single as been on a rise and has now found herself at the pinnacle of African music, not only being one of the most celebrated female acts in Africa at the moment but the world at large. Her most recent major project, the “Red” album has been doing pretty well and goes far to prove why Mavin records should be considered the biggest record label in Nigeria.
Dr. Sid and D’Prince are the only remaining two artists that survived the evolution of Mo’Hits to Mavin, and their experience in the game is always obvious in the caliber of songs they release, staying relevant in the music market that is becoming increasingly competitive year-in year-out. This is another major factor to be considered in ranking Mavin as the biggest record label in Nigeria.
Di’Ja, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello, who were once referred to as Mavi 2.0, the future of Nigerian music have been living up to expectations by numerous music fans. The trio since joining the label close to 730 days ago, have been able to grow from newbie in the industry to household names in what seems like split seconds. They have dropped hits back-to-back something some of the other guys they met in the game have still not being able to achieve. One of the Mavin 2.0 members, Reekado Banks has even gone as far as dropping his debut album, a feat that has to be applauded, as the young man has been able to defy all odds and deliver to his fans (Reekaddicts), a wonderful and highly entertaining body of art “Spotlight”.
Di’Ja and Korede Bello although without an album yet are doing very well on the music scene as they are without questions one of the most booked and sought after artistes today.
Their latest signing Iyanya, with just a track under the label is already an household name and can only grow bigger.
Another thing that makes Mavin stand out is the branding the label itself gives itself and the branding the artistes get from the label. The way they do it, no one really knows but what everyone knows is they always get it right. You just can’t help but be impressed with everything Mavin Records and her artistes do. This label knows what their teeming fans demand and supply them double-dose leaving no stone untouched. This makes the label sleek and a role model to others, another reason to consider in referring to them as the biggest record label in Nigeria at the moment.
When it comes to the concerts, so far the record label can boast of two in Nigeria; “Access Mavin Concert” and Reekado Banks’ headlined Thank You” concert. The Access Mavin Concert which was held last year is by far one of the best concerts ever in the country, everything was on check from the creativity to the organization to the turn up. It was sold out and the label duly delivered on its own part.
The recently held “Thank You” concert can easily be described as an “Awesome show” The concert headlined by rave of the moment and Headies 2014 Rookie of the year and Headies 2015 Next Rated, Reekado Banks lived up to the hype and many have ceased the opportunity to call out someone that once dared the label’s boss and his crew to come to the mainland, as the concert was a total success and was completely sold out.
In terms of awards, really should we even waste time discussing about that? We all know the gist on this when it comes to Mavin, their domination of different awards all over is not up for discussion at all.
All in all… with the above, would you agree or disagree that Mavin Records is the biggest record label in Nigeria?
