Man with terminal cancer plans to attend his own wake

A terminally ill man took it upon himself to organize his own wake simply because he wanted to attend the event with his loved ones.

Terminally ill

61-year-old David Hughes has called on his friends and family to join him for a living wake that will consist of a disco with 1970’s and ’80s music, various games, and a buffet, Mirror reports.

“You needn’t think you’re going to party without me,” the man told his friends.

Hughes, a former baker who resides in South East England, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2017. Just one month after the diagnoses, he was informed the cancer had spread to his bones and had become terminal.

“I want to see as many of my friends and family, past and present, as possible while I’m still here,” the father of two said. “[…] Life is about making memories and moving on, but it’s also about all the people you know and have met along the way.”

The event is scheduled to go down April 28 at the Minster Working Men’s Club. Hughes said the wake will include a raffle, with all money going toward prostate and bone cancer research.
“It will be great to have a catch up with people I haven’t seen for a long time. Why have a get together when you’re dead?”
