The Rock might not feature in ninth Fast and Furious franchise because he still feels “ill will” towards co-star, Vin Diesel

Dwayne The Rock Johnson is is doing a press tour for his forthcoming film Rampage. In an in-depth interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that he’s “not quite sure” if he’ll be returning to the Fast and Furious franchise for its ninth installment because of his rift with Vin Diesel.

The hesitation apparently stems from his beef with co-star and actor Vin Diesel. The drama went down while the two were on set filming The Fate of the Furious back in 2016. Johnson slammed Diesel in an Instagram post their last week of filming, cryptically criticizing those who can’t “conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals” and were “too chickenshit to do anything about it…Candyasses.”

After the film was released, Rolling Stone notes that some scenes featuring the two appeared to be filmed separately. “That is correct,” Johnson confirms with the magazine. “We were not in any scenes together.”

The disagreement, he claims, happened because of how the two conduct themselves on set. “Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” he says. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach movie-making and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”

When asked directly if he will be returning to the franchise, Johnson said, “Right now I’m concentrating on making the spinoff as good as it can be,” referring to the Hobbs and Shaw
spinoff coming out in 2019.

“But I wish him all the best, and I harbor no ill will there, just because of the clarity we have,” he tells Rolling Stone, before retracting part of his statement. “Actually, you can erase that last part about ‘no ill will.’ We’ll just keep it with the clarity.”
