NIGERIAN CARNIVAL, UK 2012 – PRESS RELEASE

ALL NOW SET FOR THE ANNUAL NIGERIAN CARNIVAL UK – 2012 EDITION                                                         …cultural celebration and exhibition

All is set for the biggest conglomeration of Nigerians and friends of Nigeria living in the UK. Whilst the 2011 edition of the cultural event witnessed movers and shakers from the Nigeria and British government officials to Tv personalities and entrepreneurs around the world, this years’ event is set to be even more exciting, informative and educative.

Owing to the success of Nigerian Carnival 2011 and for us to bolster our arsenal, we have deemed it of utmost importance to work in partnership with various organisations to make it a national day for Nigerians in the United Kingdom and also to build a community cohesion with various nationals living in London and the United Kingdom at large. The carnival which is sandwiched between the Paralympics event will not hold at the last year’s venue (The Marsh Lane Fields in east London) as the venue will be partly used for the Olympic and Paralympics’ events. However, the Waltham Forest council has reassured us of their commitment to partner with the Nigerian Carnival, UK come 2013. Therefore, KENNINGTON PARK, London SE11 4AU has been handpicked for its accessibility and for holding a bigger and prestigious events like Nigerian Carnival, the park which is just a few minutes’ walk from Kennington or Oval tube station. Where everyone will have plenty of space to dance or to sit and enjoy the live entertainment. There will be plenty of vendors on hand to provide best of Nigeria delicacies, and there will be a lot to see and do between the cultural shows.

This year’s event will feature exclusive Nigerian antecedents replete of our cultural heritage in commemoration to London 2012 Olympics and our theme for this year is “For the Love of Our Country” The Pre-Carnival London Bus Parade will take place on Thursday 26th July in Greater London Boroughs followed by a massive Green White Green Pre-Carnival Concert on Saturday August 4th 2012. The main show will be on Saturday 25th August 2012 at Kennington Park, London, SE11 4AU where a grandiose cultural masterpiece will be showcased on a podium. A follow up on the carnival will be an after party immediately after the carnival; the venue will be confirmed soon.

We believe our country deserve more than just marking our Independence Anniversary within our community, we have decided to put together a unique independence bus parade around the greater London boroughs on October 1st and a special award night tagged ‘Spirit of Nigeria Awards’ (SON) and Independence Soiree, an awards ceremony to honour the past and present outstanding Nigerians both in Nigeria and here in the UK who have made us proud in terms of selfless services rendered to our dear nation. This event will be a yearly event and the maiden edition will be held on the 28th of October and it will culminate all our activities for the year.

The Nigerian Carnival aims to promote Nigeria’s rich resources by creating a platform for Nigerians in the UK; where they can showcase their individual and collective talent. This we hope to achieve through information dissemination and entertainment. We want to continue bridging the cultural gap that exists between generations and to encourage participation in the promotion of our heritage and country. We also plan to market Nigeria to the world as a tourist, trade and investment destination.
