Teni, born in London, lives in Lagos, Nigeria, leading her fourteen piece band the Afro-Renaissance, and also appearing from time to time with the Egypt 80, Fela Kutis’ original band.
Teni is set to release her new song “Lionheart,” the second single from her album “Afrodisiac.” Lionheart is pure, soaring vocals with driving Fela-Kuti inspired afrobeat, a truly fresh and bold exploration of the genre. She calls it feminine afrobeat and is one of the few women composing her own sound.
With an album of truly classic, rootsy music that is ten years in the making, Teni is set to revolutionize music with an epic self-produced sound that transcends genres from jazz and the blues to soul and reggae, is inspired by eclectic influences from Fela Kuti to Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone and has a strong, truly timeless message.
