Bruno Mars’ family is mourning the loss of the pop star’s mother, Bernadette Hernandez.
Hernandez, 55, passed away Saturday after suffering a brain aneurysm — according to a publicist for Mars’ label, Atlantic Records, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak on the record.
Mars has four sisters – (photographed l-r) Presley, Tahiti, mother Bernadette who passed away Saturday, Tiara, Jamie.
Mars, 27, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, is one of six children — including his four sisters who are currently in a girl group, and a brother who serves as the drummer for the Grammy winner’s band.
Mars also has a brother, Eric (left) who is a drummer in his band.
Mars is one of pop’s top acts with several No. 1 hits including his most recent, “When I Was Your Man.” His mother, a hula dancer and a singer who emigrated from the Philippines, nurtured her son’s interest in music at an early age.
The singer has talked openly about his musical upbringing and time spent in the family band.
Bruno Mars arrived at LAX on Friday, May 31. His mother was said to have been hospitalized.
