A gigantic electronic billboard erected at the entrance of the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos by one of Nigeria’s telecommunication companies, Globacom which is owned by billionaire, Mike Adenuga is generating some panic among citizens who frequent the area over fears that the brightness of the billboard could cause severe damage to their sights.
Experts say its good to raise the alarm on the dangers posed by the telecoms company’s advert board because “of the damaging effects this bill board has on our eyes.” He said “For heaven’s sake, the light rays emanating from this bill board are too bright. They should be reduced.”
A staff of one of the airlines operating at the airport said “indeed the board is abnormally huge and the brightness of the light beaming on it is damaging to one’s health. I first suspect that there are problems with the board when soon after it was erected few weeks ago, it began to mal-function. Sometimes you will notice that one side of is will go blank like a damaged tv screen while the other side will only show steel pictures as against changing images.
At a point, whoever installed it had to change the generator set powering the board to a bigger one leaving the other generator and some of their unused heavy poles to damage the flowers planted in the garden by the Lagos state government within where it is located”
