The Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has said the state will soon begin a recruitment process for 2,500 primary school teachers to fill the vacancies in the state primary schools.

The state Universal Basic Education Board chairman, Busari Adebisi, who was part of a delegation of Oke Ogun Development Council to the Governor’s Office, confirmed this on Tuesday.

Adebisi said the governor had approved the employment of teachers, especially for schools in Oke Ogun area of the state.

He said 1,200 teachers were urgently needed in primary schools in Oke Ogun.

He said, “The majority of the new teachers will be posted to Oke Ogun area of the state where they are most needed due to migration of teachers. Others will fill vacancies in Oyo, Ogbomoso and Ibarapa zones of the state.”

The SUBEB chairman explained that recruitment for the specific zones became necessary in view of the massive transfer of primary school teachers out of the zones.

He said the state government recruited teachers from Ibadan in 2005 and posted them to those zones but lamented that those teachers returned to Ibadan through transfer requests after working for eight years, thereby creating vacuum in the zones.
