A civil rights organisation, Ijaw Monitoring Group, has raised the alarm that the  South-South geo-political zone has “the highest number of school drop-outs in Nigeria.”

According to the IMG, 90 percent of South-South citizens are not rich enough to give their children quality education in private universities.

While urging corporate bodies, old students of the universities, international community, religious leaders to invest in public universities, IMG challenged the Federal Government “to allocate all monies recovered from late Gen. Sani Abacha’s loot and other recovered public funds on education and health sectors.”

The Founder/Coordinator of IMG, Mr. Joseph Evah, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. He added that IMG had conferred its 2013 Man of the Year award on the Academic Staff Union of Universities which, it said, remained “the only man standing.”

He also saluted the patriotic spirit of ASUU members in their efforts to revive the collapsed educational system in Nigeria.
