A seven-year-old boy, identified simply as Sulaiman, was burnt to death in a Sunday morning fire that ravaged a two-storey building at Housing Estate, Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim, who was staying with a family in the house, was trapped in the flame that engulfed the building.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Razak Fadipe, said, “The house is a two-storey building. The fire affected the topmost floor. On our arrival at the scene, we saw that the occupants of the building were trapped. We had to break in through the wall to rescue them out.

“A family of five, consisting of father, mother and three children, were rescued alive and quickly taken to a hospital in Ogba, while the seven-year-old boy, who was on holiday with them, was roasted to death.”

According to Fadipe, the fire, which started around 2am, was put off around 5am.

Meanwhile, about 42 shops were destroyed in another fire incident on Friday night at Ojodu Market in the Ojodu area of Lagos.

Fadipe, who equally confirmed the incident, advised residents to be more careful.
