Bayelsa State government has dispelled insinuations that the deadly Ebola virus has hit some parts of the state.
Commissioner for Health and Head of Ebola Task Force in the state, Dr. Ayebatonye Owei, said on Monday that there was no truth in the speculation.
He was reacting to insinuations that three Ebola cases were recorded over the weekend at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, one of the isolated centres in the state.
It was insinuated that the three cases were being investigated.
Some residents of the state have been in fear since last week when the EVD hit neighbouring Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
But Owei stated that “there is no Ebola case in Bayelsa,” and described the speculations as “false”.
The state government had on Friday urged the people of the state not to panic as proactive measures had been put in place to check the spread of the disease ravaging parts of the West African region.
Besides the NDUTH, the government also designated the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, as an isolation centre.
