The Message In The Tune: Hook by Blues Traveler

Hook by Blues Traveller

Hello everyone, it’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday, everybody’s looking forward to the weekend, weeke….. Sorry, I used to love that song; it brings back such awesome memories. Anyways, happy Friday to y’all, and I’d like weekend drinks submitted to us here at Olodo Nation for all the awesome music we bring to you. Speaking about awesome music, I found this awesome song that made me laugh, so I thought I’d write my interpretation of it. It’s one of those chill songs and it’s pretty old, but it’s still awesome. I didn’t even have to use my own words for most of the interpretation, the song pretty much tells its own story.

It doesn’t matter what I say, so long as I sing with inflection that makes you feel I’ll convey some inner truth or vast reflection… Yeah, that’s basically why I’m here; to play with your brains while caressing my harmonica.

I’ve said nothing so far and I can keep it up for as long as it takes. And it don’t matter who you are, if I’m doing my job – and I’m very sure I’m doing just that – then it’s your resolve that breaks
Because the hook brings you back; it’s more than catchy, it’s melodious and portrays this false sense of depth and musical genius. Just listen….. I ain’t telling you no lie. Seriously, you’re going to want to listen to this song over and over again.

There is something amiss, something like violins and a sad love story. In fact, I’m being insincere and I don’t mean any of this, but still my confession draws you near….. It’s the hook, darling.

Suck it in and make a desperate move or else you’ll win and then begin to see what you’re doing to me, making me stand on this stage and sing this song that you don’t even understand, but I’ll do it even though …….. It’s so PC, it’s killing me, so desperately I sing to thee of love. Sure, but also of rage and hate and pain and fear of self

And I can’t keep these feelings on the shelf. I’ve tried, well no in fact I lied; could be financial suicide, but I’ve got too much pride inside to hide or slide.
I’ll do as I decide and let it ride until I’ve died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of tacky little tunes
Of hip three minute diddys

…… For making me do this, I want to burst all your balloons and burn all your cities to the ground. But I won’t, I will not mess around unless of course I play then hey I will go on all day. Hear what I say
Now I’m done; a game, that’s really all this was. That’s all it always is. So when I’m feeling stuck and need a buck, I don’t rely on luck because I know that the hook brings you back; on that I can rely.

Aaand that’s the song; if you want, you can download the song and listen to it, then you’ll see why I love it. I know I haven’t done any Nigerian or remotely African song yet, but I will start that very soon. I heard “Gau” one time and seriously wished I could interpret it, only problem is that “lepa” and “gau” are the only words I can actually hear clearly in that song. Anyways, everyone have a great weekend and don’t drink and drive – or something along that line.
