There was a time a sector of this country felt left out when it came to music, the kind of music they wanted to listen was not produced in Nigeria, then there was the uprising that blew an exceptional musician or would I say the perfect artist our way. Bukola Elemide popularly called Asa was born in france to Nigerian parents, when she was two her parents relocated to Nigeria, twenty years later Asa returned back to Paris where her journey to becoming an epitome of art began.
She drew motivations from Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, King Sunny Adé, Ebenezer Obey and Lagbaja and this propelled her into being the person she is today.
In 2004 A?a met her manager and friend, Janet, who introduced her to Cobhams Asuquo, who in turn became her musical partner and producer, A?a returned to Paris. Back in Nigeria her first singles, “Eyé Adaba” and “Jailer” were beginning to get airtime. A?a soon signed to Naive Records.
Partnered with Cobhams, and with the new involvement of Christophe Dupouy, she produced her first album, A?a in 2007, in 2008 she had the “Live session EP”, in 2010 came “Beautiful Imperfection” and in 2014 came “Bed of Stone”.
