Sheyi Shey

They call it Murda (I don’t how this fits but I just felt like saying it), hello beautiful people it is another WCW week and today we crush of a female icon in the music industry. Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua popularly called Seyi Shay was born and raised in London, England to Nigerian parents. She started visiting Nigeria at the age of two, she attended the Command High School in Maryland, Lagos and later went back to London to complete her undergraduate studies. Her late mother was a chorister and her sister used to compose songs for TV, her brother was a radio and club disc jockey, we can say music runs in the blood.

Seyi Shay has cited her mother, Matthew Knowles, 2face Idibia, Beyoncé, Tina Turner, Sound Sultan, Wizkid, and Omawumi as mentors. She started performing at the age of 6, in 2006 her career took a good turn when she signed her first ever record deal with No Apology and moved on to form  a girl band in the UK called Boadicea. The group which was managed by Matthew Knowles later disassembled and Shay had an opportunity to continue her management deal with Matthew Knowles, as well as secure a recording contract with Sony.

In 2011 Shay met Sound Sultan who after listening to her songs encouraged her to come back to Nigeria, this advice propelled her to come to Nigeria, join Flytime Music and start a solo career in music. Shay has worked with a number of musicians, including Justin Timberlake, Brian Michael Cox, Darey, Bilal, Michelle Williams, Chip, Rob Knoxx, H-Money, and Cameron Wallace. In 2013 she won the Best New Musician of the Year (Female) for the City People Entertainment Awards and has many more nominations to her name.

If we want to go on and on there would be nothing to stop us for there is a lot to say about this bundle of talent, and we are very proud to crush on her.
