On Friday morning, WWE released a statement saying it had “terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan).” But Hogan’s lawyer, David Houston, claims that the wrestling legend resigned on Thursday night because “he didn’t want to put them or his family through this.”
Hogan was reportedly fired after the organization saw an audio transcript of a leaked sex tape in which he repeatedly called his daughter’s alleged lover the N-word.
According to GRM Daily, the racist insults took place during pillow talk with #HeatherClem, the then-wife of his former friend radio personality #Bubba the Love Sponge. Hogan was upset because he thought his daughter was sleeping with a black man.
In a statement to People, Hogan apologized for his racist rant.
“Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it.” Hogan said.
He also told the mag, “I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.”
Hulk Hogan had been a part of WWE since 1977
