The state commander of the agency, Mr. Yakubu Kibo, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday in Yola.

According to him, the driver and his assistant have been apprehended, after which they claimed that the goods belong to Jesil Pharma Ind. Ltd Company.

He said: “The team of operatives along Yola-Numan Road intercepted a Mercedes Benz container truck with registration number XA 673 WSH for a search.”

Kibo said the drug, estimated to cost N15m, was neatly concealed in 220 cartons in the truck.

He continued: “The search revealed three tons and 80 kilograms of Stopcof Lictus cough syrup with codeine, concealed in 220 cartons in the truck,”

In an interview shortly after the suspects were paraded, the suspects told the command that they were travelling from Minna, Niger State, to Jalingo, in Taraba state.

The NDLEA boss, however, added that the investigation conducted by the Command revealed that there was no fixed address for the delivery of the said 220 cartons of the cough syrup with codeine.

“This goes to show that the movement of the substance was with criminal intention and investigation is going to unveil the truth of the matter.” Kibo said.
