How do you get about 150 young social media savvy people to sit under one roof and talk about mental health?

150 young social media savvy people come together to talk about mental health

Crazy right?

If you’ve been regular on intellectual and health twitter, you’d have interacted one time or another with the hashtag #iammentallyaware. A group of young doctors and professionals came together to adddress the loophole in Nigeria’s health circle, particularly the very forbidden “mental health”.  After creating a lot of awareness online, the team had their first offline event tagged #Eatouttoreachout.

In the midst of gourmet cakes and doughnuts, slushies , delightful pancakes, small chops, BBQ and even ofada rice, people sat down to talk about mental health in a fun environment for the first time in Nigeria. Guests had to limbo under a string of balloons to enter the venue. Cameras clicked here and there as friends hugged and gisted away. There was a lot of food, talk and of course, ample time to meet new friends and network.

The event was a huge success. Everyone in attendance had loads of fun. Other health organizations such as PsyndUp, AskToks, MyMobileDoc, Med-Q Magazine, Team BRKTHRU, QuickMedicalConsult and many more partnered with Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative to make the event a blast.

Search the hashtag #eatouttoreach out on Instagram and Twitter to view more fun photos from the event.
