HAPPENING NOW: Major roads linking Abia State to Akwa-Ibom State on lockdown by students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU)

Major road linking Akwa Ibom State – Umuahia town down to Imo State on lock down by students of the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU).

The roads have been on lock down for nearly one hour, causing heavy traffic on both paths of he road. The students backed by the Student’s Union Government are protesting the strict rules forced into law by the VC concerning their exams and tution fee.

The VC of the school Prof. Francis Otunta on Monday made it known to them that their fees ought to be paid 72 hours before the beginning of their first semester examinations or else they would be restricted from sitting for their exams.

The 100Level students of the school are also protesting the postponement of their Matriculation which was slated to hold over a month ago.

The Matriculation was later rescheduled to hold on the 23rd of February 2017, but with the schools Administrative Block locked by NASUU, the Matriculation has been postponed indefinitely.

The students are determined to keep the roads on lockdown till 6pm today.

Sources claim that the VC has been locked inside the school’s Administrative Building.

The Nigerian Police Force has been contacted to put the situation under control but are yet to show up due to the road being lockdown. He nearest Police station is 1hr away from the school gate.
