Where would Black Hollywood be without the impressive performances of Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and most recently Black Panther? Apparently Phylicia Rashad knows the answer.
Most of us remember Rashad as the no nonsense lawyer, wife, mother, and all around epitome of melanin power Claire Huxtable. These days she is an acting coach for some of young Hollywood’s best and brightest, one such future powerhouse known as Chadwick Boseman.
Before Boseman was ushering Black Panther into the history books as the 10th highest grossing film of all time, he was Rashad’s student.
In a recent interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Boseman recalls the being a student of Rashad when he and his colleague were accepted to a prestigious summer acting class at Oxford University. Of course they couldn’t afford to go.
So Rashad worked her industry magic to find celebrities to funds the aspiring actors trip to England. Apparently one of those donors was none other than Denzel Washington!
To repay Denzel Washington for his generosity, Boseman invited him to the New York premier of Black Panther. While there he thanked the Washington personally for the opportunity he afforded him. Washington apparently replied in stunning fashion:
“Oh thats why I’m here, you owe me some money!” Denzel hilariously responded.
