Social media network Snapchat ran a controversial advertisement that asked users if they would rather Slap Rihanna or Punch Chris Brown.
The advert was perceived to be a reference to when Rihanna was assaulted by her then boyfriend, Chris Brown in 2009.
Although, the ad has since been pulled down with Snapchat apologizing and issuing the following statement:
“The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware.”
Rihanna has now responded to the advertisement accusing the app of creating something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims and made a joke of it.
The singer shared in a post on Instagram:
“You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV [domestic violence] victims and made a joke of it!!!
“This isn’t about my personal feelings… but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet…. You let us down!
“Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.”
