Magnitude 6.2 earthquake hits Chile

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit the coast of central Chile early on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 7:19 a.m. (1019 GMT) around 120 km (75 miles) south-southwest of the port city of Coquimbo, the USGS added.

Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries or deaths, but there has been small damage to buildings, Chile earthquake monitors said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is yet to issue any alerts in connection with the earthquake, which was recorded at around 7.19am local time (11.19am UK time).
