John Cena and Nikki Bella have ended their relationship.
One year after Cena got down on one knee and proposed to Bella in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania 33, the couple revealed to US Weekly that they’ve ended their relationship after six years together.
“While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another,” they told Us Weekly . “We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”
Over the weekend, Cena hinted at the breakup with back-to-back Instagram posts of a broken heart and a Walt Whitman quote that said, “We were together. I forget the rest.”
On Instagram, Bella posted a short message, similar to the quote given to Us Weekly.
Cena once told Desus and Mero that proposing to Bella was one of his favorite moments, but in March, he admitted to Us Weekly that the relationship took a lot of work.
“Relationships are hard. Don’t ever think that love is easy. Love is beautiful, but we’ve had to come to the realization after being together for five years that love is not easy,” he explained.
“We work every day on us. We have our problems just like everybody else. Some of our problems are very public, some of them aren’t. But we work every day on us. Anytime I get upset, I always just realize that I can’t live without her and I love her and that’s why I cave in on a lot of stuff.”
