South African Footballer, Luyanda Ntshangase Dies After Lightning Strike

South African footballer, Luyanda Ntshangase who was struck by lightning during a match has died, his club confirmed.

The 21-year-old Maritzburg United striker had been in an induced coma since being injured in the friendly game on 1 March.

Ntshangase, who made his debut against Kaizer Chiefs in October 2016, is the third Maritzburg player to die in a little more than two years after midfielders Mondli Cele, 27, and Mlondi Dlamini, 20, died in separate car accidents.

Ntshangase had made four Premier Soccer League starts and had advanced to United’s senior team last season.
