Jose Mourinho “is urging Manchester United to pay the £25million release clause to bring Dries Mertens to Old Trafford this summer.
Mertens has enjoyed a superb season, scoring 21 goals and contributing 12 assists to fire Napoli’s Serie A title challenge.
According to UK Sun, this could be his final season at Napoli, if United follow through on Mourinho’s plan.
The 30-year-old has a release clause set at just £25m for clubs outside of Italy and Mourinho is known to admire the Belgium international’s versatility.
Mertens was Rafa Benitez’s first signing at Napoli when he joined from PSV Eindhoven back in 2013.
