New Wonder Woman Movie To Be Set In The Year “1984”

Wonder Woman is taking us back to the 80’s.
With all the excitement that new Marvel films generate, it can be easy to forget about the DC cinematic universe.

Of course, the main culprit is likely the overall quality of the films, but one DCU picture stands plainly above the rest:
Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, impressed critics and became one of the highest grossing films of 2017, beating every other Marvel film that came out that year.

Now, we have some new info on the sequel, which is set to drop next year. Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s president and CEO, changed his Facebook cover photo to a new logo for the sequel, which confirms that the sequel will take place in the year 1984, 60 years after the WWI setting of the original.

While it had been confirmed in the past that the film was going to take place during that decade, the exact year can give us some clues as to what will be going on in the film. Of course, the major event was the Cold War that took place between the United States and Russia, which will definitely have a big part to play in the film. 1984 could also be a reference to the George Orwell novel of the same name, which means the film might deal with themes of totalitarianism and government surveillance.

Speculation aside, we do know for a fact that Kristen Wiig will be joining the cast to play Wonder Woman’s longtime villain, Cheetah. How she’ll fit into the plot will be revealed when the film is released next year.
