The Movie Academy reportedly want Kendrick Lamar on board with the music branch of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most iconic artists of our generation. The rapper’s delivered three arguable classics with each major studio release he’s put out. It feels like with every year that passes, Kendrick continues doing bigger things with his career.
At the top of 2018, the rapper was revealed to curate and help produce Black Panther: The Album. The movie itself was a smash hit and Kendrick emphasized the movie’s vibe throughout the music.
As he made his formal entry into the movie business with the release, it looks like he has more opportunities in the film industry on the way.
Kendrick Lamar is among forty four people invited to become a member of the music branch of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Variety reports. It’s a major move for Kendrick Lamar and with the success of Black Panther: The Album, he’s undoubtedly a great fit for the position. The music branch itself is invited to composers, writers and music editors. In addition to K. Dot, Melissa Etheridge, Sufjan Stevens, Carlinhos Brown and Benoit Charest also received invites.
Kendrick’s received some major recognition this year aside from the invite to the movie academy. The rapper became the first non-jazz or non-classical artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for music. In addition, the rapper also walked away with the Top Rap Song at the ASCAP awards this past weekend.
