Just 11 days after its release, Avengers: Infinity War joined the billion-dollar club .
A little over a month later, the Disney / Marvel moneymaker has doubled that and become the fourth film of all time to clear the $2 billion mark. It’s also the first summer movie to hit the milestone.
The third film of the Avengers series reached $2 billion on Monday, 48 days after its April release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The ” the most ambitious crossover event in history ” has made $656.1 million in America and $1.346 billion internationally. It’s the No. 5 movie ever in the U.S. and No. 4 internationally.
Infinity War joins the exclusive club of Avatar, which made $2.8 billion, Titanic ($2.2 billion), and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with ($2.07 billion). Of the four films, Avengers: Infinity War is the only one not released during the winter holiday season, as THR points out.
But Infinity War may not be the only 2018 summer flick to reach $2 billion. Universal’s Jurassic World was previously the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time, with a global total of $1.7 billion.
The sequel Fallon Kingdom, which also stars Chris Pratt , hits theaters June 22. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has the potential to become another multi-billion dollar contender.
Still, Marvel’s quest to break records is far from over. Forbes predicts Infinity War will pass Titanic for the No. 4 spot of the highest-grossing films in North America this weekend. One things for sure, Avengers 4 has some pretty big shoes to fill.
