Producer Of “The Boondocks” Cartoon Announces New Adult Swim Series With Rapper, Vince Staples

Aaron McGruder’s revolutionary comic strip The Boondocks became a tv series on Adult Swim in 2005 and it changed the culture for the better.

Cartoon Network’s late-night programming block Adult Swim had little to no African-American characters in their line-up before they were blessed with a show that put the culture on a pedestal.

After three successful seasons that featured voice acting from Regina King (who played both Huey and Riley), Samuel L. Jackson, John Witherspoon, Charlie Murphy, Mark Hamill, Terry Crews,
Snoop Dogg, Yasiin Bey, and many others, McGruder left the show. Adult Swim released a final season without the show’s creator before calling it quits.

Carl Jones, who served as a producer for most of The Boondocks, took to Instagram this week to announce that he is working on a new series for Adult Swim. “New T?N Coming Soon,” he wrote on a post that featured Vince Staples and DRAM. Writers Giana Lawrence and Judnick Maynard, and actress Quinta Brunson were also featured on the social media post.

Staples’ level of “wokeness” would certainly fit in with a Boondocks style setting. There are no further details about the upcoming cartoon series, but it is expected to tackle racial tension and socio-economic issues in the same way that The Boondocks did.
