Canadian rapper Smoke Dawg is the latest of the Hip-Hop community to be killed by gun violence.
CP24 News reports a shooting outside of Cube nightclub in downtown Toronto in the vicinity of Queen Street West and Peter Street during a time where there was a high volume of people out in celebration of Canada Day. Near 8 p.m. shots were fired, which killed one and injured two more. Members of the community have identified the dead as Smoke Dawg.
“We heard multiple, multiple gunshots. They came in two sets. There was a set of three to four, four to five and then a pause and then another set of literally three to four, four to five,” a man in the area detailed to the news.
Smoke Dawg was a vital part of the flourishing Toronto rap scene and was preparing his debut album. His career trajectory was high as he and the rest of the Halal Gang have worked with Drake, most notably traveling with the 6ix God on his Boy Meets World European tour in 2017.
“All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating. I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke,” Drake shared on Instagram.
