Lauryn Hill is still lending a helping hand but has now found herself in a pretty unfavorable situation.
According to documents obtained by Bossip, the Miseducation artist is suing a relative after he duped her into giving him a $65,000 loan and later clarified that he had no intentions of paying the loan back.
The Fugees star filed a lawsuit against her cousin Gerald Hill last month in New Jersey for breach of contract.
Lauryn states she agreed to lend her cousin the money under the condition he would not pay any interest on the loan if he paid her back within a three month period.
If the repayment exceeded the three month period, he was required to pay 10 percent interest, the court papers cite. The report says Lauryn Hill revealed that her cousin “OK’d” their deal and also signed a comprehensive contract that detailed the agreement.
Lauryn Hill is reportedly seeking to retrieve the full $65,000 along with interest and money damages for the losses her cousin’s failed repayment plan triggered her to experience. Gerald Hill was allegedly in need of a loan to get his Maplewood, NJ home out of foreclosure.
As the “Doo Wop” singer/emcee attempts to fulfill a successful tour, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary Tour, the lawsuit may serve as another imperative task on her list of straightening things out.
After receiving a number of complaints about her recent concert in Toronto from sound quality to her notorious lateness, Hill canceled some of her upcoming tour dates. The tour will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Lauryn’s groundbreaking solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
