DC Cinematic Universe Reportedly In Works For Supergirl Movie

A Supergirl movie from Warner Bros. and DC is in the works and Oren Uziel, known for writing the screenplays for 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox, is working on the script.

This news comes from Deadline, and little else is known about the project. It does not currently have a producer, director or actors attached to it at this point, so it is likely in the very early stages of development.

Supergirl, also known by her Kryptonian name Kara Zor-El, is a well-known quantity in the DC universe and is the cousin of the Man of Steel himself. Kara was sent to Earth to protect her infant cousin but was delayed and arrived after him.

Supergirl has already become a big name in DC’s ongoing TV Arrowverse, with Melissa Benoist playing the Kryptonian heroine for four seasons on the hit CW show bearing her name.

The Supergirl that will be on the big screen will be played by a different actress, but the film’s tone is believed to be closer to the CW show than to most of the recent DC films, as former New Line exec and DC boss Walter Hamada move the franchise away from the dark, cynical tone of past movies.

As with the Wonder Woman movie, which was directed by Patty Jenkins, the Supergirl film is expected to have a female director, though the project is still a long ways away from even getting ready for production.
