J. Cole kicked off his KOD tour with a bang in Miami Thursday night.
The North Carolina rapper was supported by Jaden Smith and Young Thug, with Jaden giving fans an early surprise when his very famous father Will Smith made a guest appearance.
As for Cole’s set, it featured a mix of classic and new material.
One notable moment came with the performance of “Neighbors,” which featured footage of the viral video of a woman who called the police on a black family BBQ, speaking to the message of the song.
At one point, he took a moment to go over the various meanings of his album title, KOD. “KOD, three meanings.
First meaning: Kids On Drugs. That’s the times we’re living in right now. I ain’t just talking about rappers I’m talking about all of us.
We’re all addicted to some shit. Second meaning: King Over Dose.
That’s me, myself, anytime I embody that same addiction. Third meaning: Kill Our Demons. We got a lot of demons… The whole goal is to face our shit and get over our shit.”
