In addition to her live performance, she shared a story about the time she met the legend.

“You start thinking wow, this beautiful and incredible life and woman,” Keys said. “I was listening to her music while I was driving in. She’s so special. I feel sad, but really inspired and celebratory. She was able to touch so many people, divinely. She touched me. Some of my greatest songs were inspired by hers that I loved.  Talk about queens — she was definitely the queen. She stepped into the room and everyone bowed down.”

Keys also reminisced about the terrifying time she shared a stage with Aretha.

Unforgettable woman! Powerful! Original! Dynamic! One of one! One of my GREATEST inspirations!!! When we met it was literally a spiritual experience for me. When she would say she loved my songs or sang them in her show, I literally would almost pass out from the sheer honor of her voice gracing music I had created. The songs she gave us made us stand up stronger and prouder. They made us speak up for ourselves!! She empowered us!! There’s a deep hole left in the musical landscape now that she is gone. But all she has given us will live on forever! We get to be inspired by her forever and now I’m going to write more songs in her honor. I’m inspired.🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️💨 💨 💨 🎹🎤 Thank you to the Queen, there are really no words!! We love you forever!!

“It was kind of scary to be in her presence, in a good way. When you just know you’re in the presence of greatness. I remember the first time Clive asked me to perform with her. She’s one of the greatest of all time, one of the greatest voices. I remember her giving me a lot of love and said she played my songs during her shows. She performed ‘You Don’t Know My Name.’”

Franklin passed on Thursday at 76 years old after a long fight with cancer.
