Friday afternoon (US Time), it was reported that Mac Miller had died in his Los Angeles home.
According to TMZ, the rapper, whose birth name is Malcolm McCormick, passed from an “apparent drug overdose,” though a cause of death has not yet been made public. Mac’s family has now released a statement on his death, as shared with Rolling Stone.
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” reads the statement.
“He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
There has been an outpouring of condolences and memories from artists and fans on social media in the hours following the tragic news.

Mac Miller released his ambitious and personal fifth studio album Swimming in August. He was scheduled to go on tour in support of the project in October.
Just yesterday, he expressed excitement in his anticipation of the upcoming shows: “I wish it started tomorrow.”
