A 12-year-old boy in Eldridge, Iowa, has been charged with attempted murder and carrying weapons on school grounds after he brought a loaded .22-caliber handgun to a junior high school and pointing it at his teacher’s face.
The boy reportedly ordered everyone to the floor before he tried to shoot the teacher. The female teacher was able to calm the boy and take away his weapon before police got there.
The school was placed on lockdown, which was lifted after counselors and administrators visited classrooms to see that students felt safe.
The name of the boy, who remains in the Scott County Juvenile Detention Center is not being released because he is a minor.
