A family in India called off a marriage, alleging that the bride-to-be was addicted to WhatsApp and spends too much time on the messaging service.
According to reports, the bride’s family kept waiting for the groom’s side to arrive for the wedding ceremony. However, they later received a call from the groom’s family telling them that the marriage had been called off due to the bride’s habit of “excessive use of WhatsApp”.
Rejecting the claim, Uroj Mehandi, the bride’s father, said that the real reason behind them cancelling the wedding was dowry demand Rs 65 lakh.
Mehandi said he had fixed his daughter’s marriage with the son of Qamar Haidar of Fakeerpura.
“Our relatives and friends had gathered to welcome the bridegroom’s family and members of the marriage party. When they didn’t turn up, I telephoned the bridegroom’s father only to be told that they were calling off the marriage,” Hindustan Times quoted Mehandi as telling the police.
