The Nation Labour Congress has commenced a nationwide strike today as the meeting with the Federal Government yesterday, 26 Sept. ended in a deadlock.
The meeting with the Federal Government on Wednesday in Abuja was to look into the issue of implementing the new minimum wage for public servants.
The workers are demanding a new minimum wage of about N50,000 from the current national minimum wage of N18,000.
The president of the labor union, Ayuba Wabba, said after the meeting ended in a deadlock that both public and private sectors should remain shut till further notice.
“In compliance with this mandate, all workers and private sector at all levels across the country have been directed to comply. All public and private institutions, offices, banks, schools, public and private business premises, including filling station, are to remain shut till further notice,” Wabba said at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
