Hillary Clinton Defends Bill Clinton, Insists He Didn’t Abuse Power Of The President In Lewinsky Scandal

Hillary Clinton is back in the spotlight, defending her husband yet again over his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The former Secretary of State was on CBS Sunday Morning to discuss sexism in politics in the wake of the #MeToo movement and the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh .

The conversation around harassment by politicians eventually turned to her husband, former president Bill Clinton, and the various allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

The House of Representatives famously impeached Clinton for lying under oath about an affair he had with Lewinsky. While the GOP-controlled Senate attempted to remove Clinton from office, they ultimately failed to gather the votes.

On Sunday Morning , Clinton was asked if she viewed her support of her husband any differently, given the new conversations around sexual misconduct particularly from men in positions of power.

She said she played “no role” in disparaging the women who came out against Bill and that she didn’t believe her husband should have stepped down during the scandal.

When asked if Bill’s affair was an abuse of power, Clinton repeatedly said “No.”

“There are people who look at the incidents of the ’90s and they say ‘A president of the United States can not have a consensual relationship with an intern, the power imbalance is too great,'” CBS correspondent Tony Dokoupil began before Clinton interjected to point out Lewinsky was an adult.

Clinton also wondered where the investigation was into current president Donald Trump, who was caught on tape admitting to sexually assaulting women.

“Where’s the investigation of the current incumbent, against whom numerous allegations have been made?” Clinton said, adding that “he dismisses denies and ridicules” his accusers.

“There was an investigation [of President Clinton], and it, as I believe, came out in the right place,” she said.
