President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani has admitted that the country’s military made an “unforgivable mistake” by shooting down a Ukrainian jetliner, which killed all 176 people on board.
According to a statement released by the Iranian President on Saturday, 11th January 2020, he admitted that the incident was caused by “human error” adding that the military mistook Flight 752 for a “hostile target”.
He wrote that the “country deeply regret this unforgivable mistake” and apologises to the families of all victims, and to other affected nations.
The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake.

Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, reacted to the incident saying that Iran must make an official apology and agree to an open investigation and bringing those responsible to justice.
“Our 45 professionals should have full access and co-operation to establish justice. The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake. My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I offer my sincerest condolences.”
