Katsina Govt Abolishes WhatsApp In Schools And Facebook Among Workers

The Katsina State Government has reportedly abolished all WhatsApp groups in government schools across the state and also banned civil servant in the state from commenting either positively or negatively on government activities on Facebook.


According to the letter, the ban became necessary due to the various postings being made which created problems between the school authority and staff.

The ban was contained in a circular dated Monday, December 7, 2020. It was signed by the state’s Zonal Coordinator, Muhammad Sada Dikko on behalf of the Zonal Coordinator, Katsina State Ministry of Education and sent to all heads and principals of public schools in the state.

In the circular, the state government directed principals to abolish all existing Whatsapp groups in their respective schools. It also directed them to remind their staff about a government circular prohibiting civil servants from commenting positively or negatively on the activies of the State Government on Facebook.
