For the very first time ever in his Barcelona career, Lionel Messi received a red card after he threw an arm at Asier Villalibre.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner swung his right arm toward the Athletic player’s head while trying to free himself.
The video review showed the Argentine guilty, and subsequently, the referee sent him off the field for the remaining of the contest.
It meant a first ever red card in Messi’s 753 appearances for Barcelona, to go with his two reds for Argentina in 2005 and 2019.
