The Delta state Police Command has denied involvement of its officers in the unfortunate incident that led to the death of a woman and her baby on Wednesday in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the woman and her child were killed after police officers rammed into a tricycle they were conveying in, as they were chasing some suspected internet fraudsters.
The police had earlier confirmed and promised to investigate the incident.
The state’s Police command spokesperson, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, has now said in a statement that the incident was a multiple-car accident that did not involve the police.
The statement further revealed that the police only arrived at the scene to rescue victims of the accident only for the officers to be attacked by angry mobs.
