The Adamawa State Government has ordered the deployment of 150 local vigilantes to complement military efforts in eradicating Boko Haram suicide attacks in Madagali.

The General Supervisor of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Madagali, Garba Tarfa, told SUNDAY PUNCH that 150 hunters had been deployed in Madagali on the orders of the Adamawa State Governor, Mohammed Jibrilla.

Tarfa stated, “The governor has approved and directed the chairman of Madagali Local Government (Area) to engage 150 other hunters, so that total peace would be restored in the council. They are also to assist the military to fight the escaping Boko Haram members fleeing Sambisa Forest into Madagali, which is an exit route for them,” he stated.

He added that within the last 20 days of capturing Sambisa Forest, Civilian JTF members, who were hunters in Madagali, had rescued more than 40 women and children from Boko Haram.

“In one of the joint operations carried out by the military and hunters on Wednesday in Gasa village, over a dozen Boko Haram members were killed.

“Four of the Boko Haram fighters were arrested alive, while two AK-47 rifles, six Dane guns, eight goats and 40 rams were recovered.

“On the night of the same operation, three female suicide bombers attempted to carry out attacks on Bakin Dutse, but these attacks were foiled by members of the civilian JTF, who shot and killed two of the female suicide bombers. The third female was arrested and dispossessed of the improvised explosive device on her,” Tarfa said.
